The second annual Fin Island Trail Run was held Aug. 28 during Bridgefest.

The organizing committee, consisting of five Battlefords Tribal Council Indian Health Service staff and a local teacher, put together a successful race that showcased the amazing trails on Finlayson Island, North Shore Trail and Trans Canada Trail. People from the Battlefords, other communities, cities and towns in Saskatchewan and other provinces got to see what our beautiful trail system is all about.

The day started at 7:30 a.m. with the seven 21 kilometre walkers and the mass start of 158 participants was at 8 a.m. for the five kilometre walk/run, the 10 kilometre walk/run and the 21 kilometre run. There was a mix of racers including staff, first timers and competitive racers.

Janice Kennedy warmly welcomed the racers and started the race.

Next year aims to be bigger and better. Go to finislandrun.weebly.com to see pictures and the results of the race.
