Could it have been a more perfect Thanksgiving weekend? The weather was fantastic, the Riders won and thankfully the majority of farming has been completed with a bountiful harvest.
The St. Peter's Catholic Women's League is holding a harvest tea and bake sale from 2 -3:30 p.m., Oct. 19, at the St. Peter's Hall. Everyone is welcome to join them.

Unity Public School enjoyed a beautiful fall day of soccer at the annual elementary district soccer event in Cut Knife Oct. 8. The boys had an undefeated day while the girls had a strong showing in their outing, winning half of their games. UPS is gearing up for Education Week activities.
UCHS students will be collecting winter wear for a campaign. Also, soon will be the fruit sales that benefit a number of school programs. This weekend, the senior boys' volleyball team is hosting their home tournament.
St Peter's School was also part of the district elementary boys/girls' soccer tournament in Cut Knife before Thanksgiving. The school has also marked the season of gratitude, giving thanks for the many blessings bestowed upon staff and students.
The UCHS Warrior football team is headed to playoffs. With a solid record that included only one loss this season, the boys earned a home football playoff game, being played Oct. 19 at Warrior Field.
Unity Minor Football is into playoffs as well. Starting this past Thursday and ending Sunday, teams are winding up their season which included a lot of great football, plenty of skills development and a whole lot of fun.
Now that 3-on-3 hockey conditioning is over, the regular hockey schedule is in full swing. The Midget AA Lazers hosted a couple of games over Thanksgiving weekend and all other teams are on the ice. You can log onto the town website for the arena schedule, www.townofunity.ca.
The Unity Skating Club is also back in action with group test and senior skaters already into lessons. CanSkate lessons begin Nov. 4 and will run Mondays and Thursdays. The pre-CanSkate and stage 1 session will be 3:45 - 4:30 p.m. and the second session for Canskate stage 2 and up will be from 4:30 - 5:15 p.m.
The Unity Curling Club held registration this week. The club always welcomes new curlers and participants can sign up as an individual or as a team. They will find a spot for you.
The club is excited about a busy upcoming season that includes hosting numerous bonspiels, starting with the Sifto Cash Spiel Tournament of Champions Nov. 15, 16 and 17. Of course, the Provincial Senior Men's and Women's Championship being held in February has had organizers busy for months now and planning is kicked into high gear now that curling season is underway.
Fowl or fall suppers, whichever way you refer to them, are selling tickets for their upcoming events. Unity United Church will hold their annual supper Oct. 27 and tickets are available from Our Drug Store or Sears. For take-out tickets, contact the courtesy car office. St. Peter's Parish will hold their annual fall supper Nov. 3.
Coming up Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. is the free Investors Group sponsored comedy night that will benefit the local health care auxiliary and food bank. Contact IG representative, Lorianne Mawbey, for details at 306-228-8435. Renowned comedian Doug Funk will be performing.
Coffee row is in a flurry of conversation as contributors talk of renewed cautious optimism after another win for the Riders gave them a guaranteed playoff spot. The anxiety level that arose from elusive repeat, high risk offender Michael Sean Stanley being on the loose certainly created a stir on coffee row. The harvest topic is still front and centre, with reports of grand yields being discussed. October brings another full slate of activities to discuss and review.
