Hall spiffed up and ready for activities

This is the time of year when clean up jobs around the village are being done. First on the agenda was the community hall. A good crowd gathered there Saturday and cleaned it completely. Even the hall sign will be refurbished.

This is the time of year when clean up jobs around the village are being done. First on the agenda was the community hall. A good crowd gathered there Saturday and cleaned it completely. Even the hall sign will be refurbished.

Next on the agenda will be the village and cemetery in April.

Saturday, March 24 a quilting retreat will be held at the Waseca Community Centre. Those registered will have a full day, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., working on a quilt top.

The Waseca Community Centre is sponsoring a walk-a-thon April 29. Pledge sheets are available from Arlee Lumgair. Watch for posters.

Arlee Lumgair spent the past week with her daughter Tracy and family at Meadow Lake.

It's the time of year when gardeners are planning their spring activities. Those who have greenhouses, like Evelyn Janus and Bobbi Doepker, have been busy for some time and have plants well started.

Cheryl Perry and her sister, Marilyn Wilson, spent a few days at the Scotties curling playdowns in Red Deer. They thoroughly enjoyed watching the games first hand and observing the crowd reactions.

The death of Beth Burkitt, a former Waseca resident, occurred March 6. Beth was born to Frank and Mary Chiverton, Lilydale residents, on Oct. 1, 1921.

In 1941, Beth married Wilf Burkitt, who at the time was working for the Wenmun brothers in Maidsotne. In 1952 they moved to Waseca where Beth clerked at the co-op store, which was managed by Wilf. Their two sons, Vernon and Leonard, attended Waseca School.

During their three years in Waseca, both took an active part in the many activities taking place in the village at that time and were known for their hospitality and friendship. Beth kept in touch with friends in the area.

Our sympathy to her family and friends. Beth was laid to rest at Medstead.
