The volunteers who put together Edam's annual Spooktacular promise to scare the yell out of you.
This year the theme of their popular frightening installation is Haunted House.
Organizers insist no scarier haunted house has ever been assembled.
Visitors are welcome Oct. 26 to 30. Oct. 26 to 29, guided tours, with admission at $10 each, will be available from 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 30 will welcome visitors for a non-guided tour from 1 to 3 p.m.
Organizers warn the experience is suitable for those only 10 years of age and up.
Many volunteer hours go into this project each year. Starting in September a floor plan of the haunted house was made and then oil shacks are brought into the shop to be joined together by constructed frames, and rolls and rolls of black poly in order to enclose the area.
After thousands of staples and nails had everything in place it was time to decorate each room.. Each room depicts a different area of the haunted house. Lighting and music is a major aspect of the project and can significantly change the effect of the area if not adjusted perfectly. Cob webbing is always the final touch.
Edam's haunting has grown in popularity over the years. Since the first Spooktacular. the attendance of terror seekers has increased each year bringing people from all over the region, some even travelling from Edmonton just to take a tour. That support has helped the Edam and District Board of Trade, sponsors of the spooking, donate to many community projects such as $15,000 towards the community centre twinning project, donations to the emergency response building and many other local projects.
