The magic of theatre took the audience to a strange and colourful land as the Maidstone High School junior cast of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz took to the stage Monday night.

The play was so popular with actors last year, directors decided to make up the cast with senior high school students and remount it later with a junior cast. The parts were designated before the summer holidays and the cast worked for three months to get the performance ready for the stage.

It was directed by Tina Brett and Paula Malfair, whose dedication to the performing arts at the school make it possible for the young people to grow and develop confidence as performers.

Danielle Hult as Dorothy, Kole Phillips as the Scarecrow, Angie Boggust as the Tin Woodsman, Anne Nerbas as the Cowardly Lion and Michelle Blanchette as Toto worked well together with enthusiasm and obvious delight in being able to play the colourful characters.

The rest of the cast and crew helped make the play something to be proud of.

Sets and costumes were colourful and the young cast brought everything to life with their voices, movement and songs in the classic tale of good versus evil.
