Just to remind everyone of upcoming events in Maymont.

Less than a month away for the Maymont Legends event, Oct. 26. Tickets can be purchased from Maymont Hall committee members: Mary and Kari Carpentier, Judy Gallie, John Reddekopp, Dale Beaudoin, Jay Babineau or Bonnie and Neil Milman. Tickets can also be picked up in North Battleford and you can also get tickets by calling Carol or Mel at 306-389-2440. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Some tickets will be available at the door but it's better to buy before the event.

This year our door prize will be a night's stay at the Sheraton Cavalier in Saskatoon and we will also be doing a 50/50 draw.

One of the performers we are doing a tribute to is Rita McNeil. MacNeil, the beloved Cape Breton singer whodiedin April, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame during Country Music Week last month. Known for songs such as Working Man and Flying on Your Own, MacNeil entertained audiences for more than 30 years and was the best-selling Canadian country artist of 1990 with the release of the album Rita.

MacNeil earned three Juno Awards and won Fans' Choice twice at the Canadian Country Music Association Awards. Born in Big Pond, N.S., she was called Cape Breton's first lady of song.

Performing Rita McNeil will be Shelly Bloom from Turtleford. Shelly was born and raised at Maymont. She is a mother of six and grandmother of five. She loves horses and Jon Sloan says she's the best cook in the world. Shelley is a prolific community/church volunteer and a nurse at Turtleford long term care. She is multi-talented, known for her generous hospitality and warm smile. I'm sure anyone who loves Rita's songs will enjoy the music sung by Shelley.

The seniors had their September potluck supper Sept. 30 in the seniors' centre. The potluck food was amazing. After supper, there was entertainment provided by Mel Deagnon, Tom Caldwell, Bert Carpenter and John and Pat Reddekopp.
