Let's go fly a kite

I can't believe it. I just crossed another item off my bucket list. For a few years I've wanted to attend Windscape, the kite festival at Swift Current. This year we could make the trip. Windscape is amazing.

Windscape is amazing. Over 50 national and international star kite performing and kite-making individuals attend each year, filling the sky with a multitude of kite creations

Over 70 years ago, I remember Mom helping us cut and past brown paper while Dad sought out the lightweight sticks we needed. Then we found scraps of cloth for the tail and retrieved the store string we had saved up. We did get it in the air, too.

When it was time for our own children to fly kites, we did have some store bought ones. They came in all shapes and sizes featuring Mary Poppins, Spider Man or the fad of the day. The most wonderful kite of that time was the one Donald made in junior high. It was a large, bright red, box kite. When it was in the air, people miles away could see it.

Kiting with the grandkids was the next adventure. All Grandma wanted for her birthday was a kite, so she purchased one and it took me off the ground. All I needed was the kids to help me hold on.

So, you can imagine how exited I was to see all the kites in the air at Windscape. The biggest thrill was when Dave Taylor and his partner of Lanigan asked if I would like to fly one of their kites. They would help me. Wow! Yes, I did it! I flew a kite at Windscape!
