It is hard to believeSeptember is over and we are already into the month of October. The first month of school seemed to fly by very quickly. We hope the farmers finished their harvests safely and everyone enjoyed the nice weather.

Elementary house leagues are in full swing. There are four teamsthis year: The Roughriders, Mean Machines, Midgets and Dynamites. The teams are made from students in Grades 3, 4 and 5. This year any Grade 6s who wanted to play were included in the teams. The captains are Grade 5 students. We have just completed soccer and will begin playing flags next week. There have been some very close games and the students have enjoyed playing outdoors.

The school is pleased to have Joan Julseth coming to teach piano lessons Tuesdays. She comes from Borden and instructs students and staff who are interested in taking piano lessons.

As usual, there have been a lot of sports teams playing during the past week. The senior boys' soccer team travelled to Hepburn for some exhibition games. A number of the veteran players were hurt so the rookies gained valuable experience. The team lost the game but gained important playing time.

The junior girls' volleyball team attended a tournament at John Paul II Collegiate Saturday. They finished second in their pool and then lost a very close quarter-final match to John Paul II. The junior boys' team attended a tournament in Wilkie. The boys played hard but fell short of winning any games.

Our senior girls' volleyball team played in a tournament in Leoville. They played very well and took silver, losing to Big River in the final game. We are proud of all our teams, whether they win or lose!

Many of our students have started playing hockey already. Congratulations to Brooke Ferris, a Grade 5 student, as she made the Tier 2 hockey team in Saskatoon. Also to Brodie Gray, a Grade 4 student, as he made the AA team in North Battleford. As well, Hailey Harris, Grade 5, will be playing with the Saskatoon Comet-Rebels. We hope you all have a great season.

Two of our staff members, Kari Gray and Anita Prescesky, took part in this year's CIBC Run For the Cure, Oct. 6. This is a run to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. Well done, ladies!

The school will be holding acommunity breakfast Oct. 22. This is part of our Education Week activities. The breakfast is open to everyone and there is no charge. Please feel welcome to come out for coffee, fruit, and muffins.
