There was an election for reeve in the RM of Glenside Dec. 4. Former Reeve Wade Parkinson retired from the position of reeve after approximately five years. Only two interested candidates submitted their names for the position - Kim Custer of Division 5 and Garry Hoppe, councillor for Division 3.

Winter has settled in. More snow falls and the wind whips it into drifts making some areas on the grid roads heavy. The RM grader has been out to clear the snow. When the snow first fell it started with a heavy rain shower to freeze to make areas very slippery. It has been a little below normal for temperatures. Care must be taken near the ice on sloughs, dugouts and the river. The ice is covered with snow, but the ice is thin and not safe to go out on. We need a lot more colder air to make the ice freeze thicker.

White-tailed deer season is open. Some land is posted for no hunting, but most is open to hunt on. With the snow on the grounds it is much easier to follow the deer tracks and trails. The mule deer have been taking over in the area to make less white-tailed deer to hunt. There does not seem to be as many deer about after the hardships they endured last winter. Snow was so deep and they were not able to dig out the feed the needed. Many did not survive.

There have been a few elk showing up on some treed land close by. They have been about for a while but not really too much in sight, but tracks are all about. They are pretty shy and stick close to the treed areas.

Also there is moose about and there seems to be a few roaming about the fields and side roads. Every once in a while there will be one show up when you least expect it. Why so many of moose and deer get hit on the roads when there is open fields is a mystery. They are all a hazard on the roads. The motorists have to keep a sharp eye out for them. There seem to be a fair amount of hunters out and about for the hunting season. Less snow about makes it much easier for the hunters to travel the back roads.

What a surprise I got one sunny, cold crisp morning in early November, but to hear and later see a robin in the trees. Maybe he got lost or just left behind or are we going to have a mild winter. Robins were also reported and seen in the Willowmoore area.

We can all be so proud to live in Saskatchewan and where our Roughriders football team are winners of the 101st Grey cup for 2013. It has been a week to celebrate. It's just too bad the weather was cool for those one that were outdoors. We wish the whole team well and good luck to the losing team for another year.

Jeanne Laycock and Kay Robertson of Bjelde Creek were recent visitors at the home of Dorothy Mills.
