Norman Carter School students, staff observe Remembrance Day

Students and staff at Norman Carter School are busy with sports and other extra-curricular activities.
WILKIE ‑ There was a Remembrance Day assembly at Norman Carter School Nov. 10 for students and staff to honour those who fought and died for freedom.

Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions and space it was not open to the public.

Nov. 15 to 19 is Spirit Week at the school with each day having a special theme. Monday is PJs and messy hair and Tuesday is T-shirt Day. Wacky Wednesday encourages as many crazy colours and patterns as possible. Thoughtful Thursday puts forward the idea of doing something extra special for others and Friday is Freaky Friday, where teachers dress like kids and kids dress like teachers and staff.

The school library had a successful book fair, with librarian Roxanne Greenwald able to purchase new books and Grade 4 student Brilee winning $25 worth of books.

The art club for students in Grades 1 to 3 is an after-school program. The club will meet Nov. 18. Parents sign up children by registering at nc@lskysd.ca every month. Also, there are plans for a glee club.

There will be an elementary volleyball tournament Nov. 24 with students playing at Norman Carter School and McLurg High School gyms. Spectators are welcome, but must wear masks and social distance.

Novice curling which will start in January for students in Grades 4 to 6. The program will run after school, every Wednesday from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. starting Jan. 5 and going to Feb. 16. There will be a sign-up form with the fees in the December newsletter.

The school raised $575 for the annual Terry Fox Run and appreciate the support from students, parents, and others.
