Oratory season for 4-H members

It's the time of year when 4-H clubs have their public speaking sessions. Bev and Vic Hult attended the Lashburn 4-H Club's speak off held in Lashburn on the afternoon of Feb. 12. Their granddaughter Torrie Chibri was winner in her class.

The regional 4-H speak off will be held in Waseca Hall Sunday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. Members of the public are invited to attend. 4-H young people are noted for their excellent oratory, so this is an opportunity to hear and see some of it.

The Waseca Rink committee continued fundraising with a Valentine Dance at the Waseca Hall on the evening of Feb. 18. Although the weather has been mild, the rink is being used and enjoyed.

The Waseca Quilters thoroughly enjoyed their day at Pine Island Lodge. We were set up in the activity room there Feb. 15 and had visits from many of the residents. We are invited to work there again soon.

Did you know red and white have been Canada's official colours since Nov. 21, 1921 as declared by King George V? The maple leaf emblem has been considered Canada's emblem since the 18th century.
