Here we are in the beginning of May. The students are gearing up for track and field, class trips and are on the home stretch to final exams. Farmers are on the land with a few quarters seeded already and the cattlemen are checking to see if the pastures are ready for the cows to go out. But let's carry on with the job at hand and report the happenings of the area.

Members of the local Legion branch Charlie McCaffrey, Huguette MacGregor, and Judy Carignan, were at H. Hardcastle School April 23, to present prizes to the creative students whose posters, poems and essays advanced after the local level.

Jessica Curry's junior poem placed first in the province and advanced to the national level. Word had not been received as to her placing there. The poem also placed first at district and zone levels. Jessica also earned third place at the zone level for her junior essay.

Other students recognized were: Treyden Brennan - second at zone level for intermediate essay; Payton Morin - first at zone and third at district for intermediate poem; Kennedy Schaefer - second at zone for intermediate poster black and white poster; Shanae Blaquiere - First at zone and second at district for senior essay; Kelsey McCarthy - first at zone, first at district and second at provincial for senior poem.; Emma Head - second at zone for senior poster and third for senior black and white poster;. The provincial entries are as follows:

The first place provincial junior poem by Jessica Curry

Lest We Forget

Loving every one who fought for us

Encouraging all the people who risked their lives for us

Spending time with the soldiers who made it home

Thanking everyone who had the bravery in them and who risked their lives

We will never forget you

Even the ones who are gone

Family and friends who fought for us

Other people are terrified and sad

Remembering the soldiers

Giving their lives for us

Every day people are thanking you for the peace

That is why we have Remembrance Day

The second place provincial Sr. poem By Kelcey McCarthy

I Remember

I watched a video,

And the whole scene came alive.

Soldiers were all around me,

Just fighting to survive.

I listened to a song,

About a woman on the phone,

Who cried when she found out,

Her husband was not coming home.

I stood silent for a moment,

And appreciated the life,

That was created for me by,

Many peoples' sacrifice.

I stood in front of a grave,

And everything seemed so real.

I could sense all the sadness,

That his family would feel.

I read a textbook,

And imagined what one might say,

"We are making history,

No one will forget this day."

I wear a poppy,

To show that I care,

That when we were in need,

These people were there.

The spring Scholastic Book Fair was held once again. Librarian Chrissy Roset invited everyone to enjoy the family evening April 25, where all students who attended with their parents were entered in a draw for $25 worth of books. Clifford, the big red dog visited and would like to thank Jayden Manastyrski and Zachary Gordon for making his visit so enjoyable. Edith Shewchuk was also there with her selection of books. Winning the draw for the family night was Zoey Pollard in the kindergarten class which means Mrs. Andrea Harty, Zoey's teacher, also received $25 worth of books for her classroom library. Congratulations to you both and enjoy your books.
