Robins' arrival means spring has sprung

Hi there! I do think spring has sprung as someone reported seeing robins. It will be so nice to see green grass and flowers blooming again. However, it has been dry, so we'll hope to get those April showers.

Ann Ewanchuk returned from a holiday in British Columbia recently. Here is her report. It was an exciting six weeks as she visited her sister Vel Andersonn Lee in Coquitlam, B.C. It is fortunate Vel still drives at the age of 85 years. Twice a week everyone meets for coffee at Uncle Tim's with Vel's friends Ann met 10 years ago. They were excited when one Saturday Ann's granddaughter, Sheena Ewanchuk, a geologist, and friend Scott came from Vancouver for a meal and a visit. A friend they knew when they were little girls, Olly (Dubnyk) and her husband Bob Shaw came for tea and brought cheesecakes. One day Vel drove them both to White Rock, B.C. to visit cousin Nancy (Spak) Christy, who lives in a lovely town house. Ann and her sister visited their aunt Nellie (Marchewka) Balona who was 100 years old on Christmas Day. A nephew, Jody Spak, wife Tammy and little sons Jacob and Lucas picked his aunties up for a Japanese sushi meal. Vel and Ann spent many hours in the condominium's swimming pool and hot tub. The weather was mostly rainy and cloudy and even snowed three times. Ann said it was wonderful to see her son Orest and Chris at the Saskatoon airport and the sunny weather in Saskatchewan. It sounds like you had such a lovely time visiting with your relatives and friends, Ann.

Vivian Bertsch had her niece and nephew visiting her from Calgary for a few days. I'm sure you had a great time being together, Vivian.

Bob Sarrasin, Barb Foot, Mary Dearborn, Mary Birch, Shelly Bachelder and Harry Smith motored to Lloydminster recently to do a little shopping for our high rise. They also enjoyed a lunch together while there.

Anne Loades and Thelma Kendall had a ride with Bev and Don Beggs to visit Winifred Webb in the nursing home in Speers. It was on the occasion of Winifred's 96th birthday. We had a lovely visit with Winifred and the other residents and also enjoyed a beautifully decorated birthday cake with tea, coffee and ice cream.

As for me, you might say my news is about watching curling and more curling. I don't know if that's an addiction, but I do enjoy it. We will be busy at other things when it's all over, I guess.

We are still enjoying our meals here at Tower II. March 14 we had a tasty soup and hot dog lunch. March 16, the Second to None folks brought us a delicious dinner of perogies, cabbage rolls, salads and dessert. March 30 was our Chester Chicken meal, which was good.

The flu is certainly going around everywhere now. Edith Lockhart and Mary Dearborn are two of our residents who have been suffering from it recently. We hope you both will soon be feeling better.

We're glad Eleanor Taylor is home again after spending a few days in the hospital.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the families and friends of Chris Perason and Joe Herman who both passed away recently. They lived in our tower for a number of years.

There have been many new people moving into our high rise lately. Welcome to you all and we hope to get acquainted at coffee time and the other activities here.

That's all for now. Be sure to get out and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.
