Last week, the elementary hallways of Maymont Central School were decorated with turkeys for Thanksgiving. One class made turkeys out of construction paper and paper plates. Two classes made thumbprint turkeys and had very messy thumbs in the process. This week, those decorations will be removed and pumpkins made into jack-o-lanterns will take their places.
The School community council, known as the SCC, held a general meeting and elections at the school Oct. 6. Rick Bailey was elected as chairman, Greg Ferris was elected vice-chairman, Michelle Nelson is the group's secretary and Monica Perehudoff takes the role as treasurer. Kim Voegeli waselected the SCC operations assistant. The group will be paying for the Education Week breakfast. Mr. Lockwood and Mrs. Stott will represent the school staff and Jan Friesen is a member on the committee representing the Student Leadership Council.
Ryan Nickell took the physical education golf group to Meota as part of their final assessment. The Grade 10, 11, and 12 students take physical education together and are offered optional units every three weeks. The groups that just wrapped up were volleyball, and golf. Fitness is offered all year.
They had a beautiful day for golfing.
The senior boys' soccer team will be venturing to Onion Lake on Saturday for their regional playoffs. Provincials are Oct. 24 and 25 in North Battleford.
The senior girls' soccer team will be hosting regionals in Maymont Friday and Saturday. There are five teams involved. The first games will be Friday at 2 and 4 p.m.
A representative from Saskatchewan Polytechnic, formerly SIAST, gave a presentation to Grades 10, 11 and 12 Tuesday morning.
The senior girls' volleyball team hosted John Paul II Wednesday in Maymont. They do not have any tournaments for two weeks because many of their players are involved in soccer.
The junior girls' volleyball team will attend a 10-team tournament in Medstead Saturday.
In elementary house leagues, the teams are just finishing soccer. It has been great to play the games outdoors. The next sport will be flags.
There will be no school Monday, Oct. 20 or Tuesday, Oct. 21. Staff members will be in North Battleford for two days of professional development.
We are missing our colleague Joanne Tebay. She is currently a patient in the Battlefords Union Hospital . She is missed and the school community wishes her a speedy recovery.
Please remember there will be a breakfast Thursday, Oct. 23, beginning at 8:45 a.m. in the school gym. Community members are welcome.
