School hosts Christmas Bingo

The Marsden Jubilee School Christmas Concert was held Dec. 16 in the Marsden Community Hall. Marsden School held a Christmas Bingo Dec. 21. They gave away food hampers, as well as various other prizes. The winner of the blackout received a turkey.

After the bingo, the Marsden School Community Council served a turkey dinner to the students and staff. The students also exchanged small gifts on the last day of classes.

Remember to bring your old telephone books to the school so they can be recycled. SaskTel will refund 10 cents for each phone book that is recycled to the school. This program benefits both the environment and the local school. It also provides an opportunity to teach students about recycling. Salvaging one ton of paper saves about twelve trees.

Marsden Jubilee School had a Grade 5/6 volleyball team this year. The students played well at tournaments in Neilburg Nov. 23 and 28.

The annual Scholastic Book Fair was held from Nov. 14 to 18 (during the week of parent/teacher interviews). MJS made a profit of $351, to be used towards purchasing product for the school. Bradley Lambert was the winner of the family event. He won $25 worth of books and $25 worth of books went to the Grade 5 and 6 classroom.

The school held a Remembrance Day service Nov. 9. Following the program, a potluck lunch was served (put on by the teachers and parents) to honour the veterans and seniors in the community. The kindergarten and Grade 1 and 2 class recited the poem, We Wear a Poppy. The Grade 3 and 4 class sang Highway to Heroes by the Trews. The Grade 5 and 6 students performed a skit and then personally thanked the veterans. They then laid wreaths by the crosses to "remember."

Oct. 30, Marsden Jubilee School hosted their annual fall supper with approximately 325 people who came out to enjoy a delicious meal. The supper raised a total of $2,063.12, which will be put towards the purchase of new text books.
