School is in, the new teachers are here, and extra-curricular activities are underway

Borden School is welcoming several new teachers this year. Jackie Corbett will be teaching Kindergarten and Grades 1 and 2. Kindergarten orientation is Sept. 13 and the first day of class is Sept.

Borden School is welcoming several new teachers this year. Jackie Corbett will be teaching Kindergarten and Grades 1 and 2. Kindergarten orientation is Sept. 13 and the first day of class is Sept. 15 and then every second, fourth and sixth day thereafter. Atina Johnston is the new special education teacher. She will also be looking after the library and teaching Grade 7 and 8 English. The new math teacher is Mitch Luiten, who will be teaching math for Grades 7 to 12 as well as psychology and senior English. Interning with Mr. Chris Link for the first semester is Melissa Romanow.

The in motion team for the elementary school is led by Mrs. Sheri Sutherland. Mr. Mitch Luiten is leading the high school team. They will start off with a jersey day Sept. 16 to celebrate Sports Day in Canada Sept. 17. The annual Ginormous Walk will happen Sept. 30.

Cross-country runners have been practising at noon. Anne Westad has been supervising evening distance work. The first meet was at Langham Monday, to be followed by the Terry Fox Run in mid-September and the Blackstrap meet Sept. 21. Then there will be the Biggar meet, the University of Saskatchewan Open Oct. 1 and Division finals Oct. 5 in Langham.

Dustin Bezugly and Connor Wainwright are competing in Division senior golf Sept. 13 in Rosthern. The volleyball teams are practising with the junior boys being coached by Mr. Link and Miss Romanow, the junior girls by Heather Prescesky, the senior boys by Mr. Dean Broughton, assisted by Mr. Luiten and Carter Bezugly, and the senior girls by Kendal Redhead along with Miss Corbett. They will be competing in tournaments throughout September and October with Conference playoffs in November.

The school will start their annual magazine subscription campaign Sept. 30.

The Prairie Spirit (West) band program is available for students in Grades 5 - 12 with instructors Ms. Kendra Worman and Mrs. Marcy Racicot. Mrs. Heather Wolfe will also be teaching while Mrs. Racicot is on maternity leave. The senior and jazz rehearsals start Sept. 19 and junior rehearsals start Sept. 21, all at Lord Asquith School, while beginner band practices start Sept. 27 at Borden. A band demonstration for beginner students in the Grade 5/6 room at Borden will take place Sept. 16 for those who may wish to join the band program.

Borden Busy Bees Preschool Co-operative Ltd. will start Sept. 21 and run from 9:30-11:30 a.m. every Wednesday in the St. John Anglican Church basement. Mrs. Gwen Dyck is the teacher and there are 13 preschoolers registered. President Kendal Redhead, vice-president Kandice Walker, secretary Melissa Braun and treasurer Lynette Schmidt along with members at large Shannon Hosegood and Donna Barth are on the board.
