School raise funds for Philippine relief efforts

Grey Cup weekend! And what a fabulous one it was. I got to experience the epic adventure in Regina myself a couple of days as well as the fantastic, fun celebrations on 8th Street in Saskatoon once the win was in the books.

Grey Cup weekend! And what a fabulous one it was. I got to experience the epic adventure in Regina myself a couple of days as well as the fantastic, fun celebrations on 8th Street in Saskatoon once the win was in the books. Now green will be the colour for an entire winter. I love Rider Pride, Rider Nation and all the Ridervilles in Saskatchewan.

Unity Public School held a rally for the Philippine relief fund, asking kids to bring coins to fill the letters spelling "Philippines." Over $1,000 was raised. In addition UPS collected clothing, blankets and other items to be shipped to the Philippines for relief efforts.

UCHS continues to be a very busy school. They too held a fundraiser for Philippine relief with a hot dog and cupcake sale, as well as collecting items to be shipped. December marks a busy month for the school with drama production, basketball season and Christmas activity.

The annual Christmas Service Of Remembrance will be held Sunday, Dec. 1 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church. New this year: please bring a tree ornament to place on the tree in memory of your loved one or friend. Everyone is welcome to attend, with refreshments to follow. Contact either funeral home for more details.

Once again, the community Christmas celebration entitled Winter Wonderland will take place Dec. 5. Watch for details on all of the events to take place. It will be another fabulous night to partake in Christmas activity, visit friends and neighbours and get in the festive spirit.

Coffee row has simply nothing other to talk about than the Riders. At this celebratory time, nothing else matters as we all revel in this sweet, at-home victory. And everyone is appreciating the weather thus far although curious conversation arises as to what winter will behave like and how long it will last.

So you see we keep busy in Unity with activities and wisdom from our friends on coffee row. Until next week.
