Snowbirds and feathered birds returning with the coming of spring

Spring has sprung! Well the grass is not quite riz but the birdies are back. Along with sightings of crows and a goose it is good to see Al and Jan Richter back from Arizona and Jake and Cecilia Krahn back from Yuma as well.

We are seeing one old crow around. On March 7 there were flocks of old crows around announcing Cindy Miller's significant birthday. I am not telling her age, being that she is a lady, however her last one was 49 and the next one will be 51.

It is good to see Don Peters back from his knee surgery. Don has already tossed the cane in the bush.

Bernie Schlieman, long time resident of Rabbit Lake, has made a move to Spiritwood Lodge. We wish Bernie well in his new environment and I am sure he would be thankful of any visitors from Rabbit Lake who might have a few minutes to share with him.

Welcome to Rabbit Lake and to Rose Gill Lodge to Jackie Kellogg. Also we wish a welcome to Darren Spielmann who has moved into the house vacated by Daniel and Jenn Konopelski. It is encouraging to have new people and young people taking an interest in living in the village.

Meeting Lake Regional Park has held its organizational meeting. The board members are: from the RM of Douglas, Judy Kjargaard and Gordon Moore; from the RM of Meeting Lake, Randy Aumack and Darren Ulmer; from the RM of Spiritwood, Harold Fast and Dwight Percy; from the RM of Round Hill, Brian Doell and Alan Laughlin; and from the Village of Rabbit Lake, Isabelle McLennan and Dave Plummer.

Darren Plummer is the chairperson, Harold Fast is the vice-chairperson and Dwight Percy in the secretary-treasurer. Darren and Dwight are cabin owners who come from Saskatoon.

The Rabbit Lake Lutheran Church held its annual deep fried turkey supper March 17, followed by a Kaiser tournament. This function is the society's only fundraiser and with the proceeds they attempt to keep the former Lutheran church in repair. The church no longer operates but is available for weddings, family services or other services. If anyone is interested in using the church, they could contact Cindy Miller at the RM of Round Hill office for information.

March 17 was also the day of a photography event hosted by the Rabbit Lake branch of the Lakeland Library. Jay Kimball of Mervin offered the second part of a series involving using a digital camera to its maximum and then computer editing and enhancing. About a dozen people took advantage of Jay's knowledge.

The library will be holding its annual general meeting at the library March 28 at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The seniors held their monthly potluck supper March 21.

Even though fishing season does not officially end for another couple of weeks, it is not advisable to be on the lake.
