Snowfall hampers village cleanup

The heavy snowfall Friday night made it impossible to carry out all the activities of Saturday's "cleanup" day.

The heavy snowfall Friday night made it impossible to carry out all the activities of Saturday's "cleanup" day. However, those working at the Heritage Christ Church cleaned up the walls inside the church and have it all ready for a paint job when the weather is a little warmer. This was a big job. Thanks to those who participated.

Outside, although those volunteers who participated were not able to pick up garbage around the village, the huge dumpsters were filled with garbage that had been gathered before Saturday.

A successful walkathon was held Sunday. Twenty-seven walkers registered for the six-mile walk. As well as local walkers, a number of people from the Maidstone Weight Watchers group took on the walk as a fitness goal. Thank you Weight Watchers from the Waseca Community Centre Committee.

Following the walk lunch and visiting time was held at the centre.

Sunday evening the 35th meeting of the Waseca Hall and Recreation Board was held at Waseca Hall beginning with a chicken supper. A good crowd turned out to enjoy the meal and take part in the meeting. The Waseca Hall Board part of the meeting was ably chaired by Kathy Campbell and Kevin Schimelfenig chaired the recreation board part of the meeting.

Committee reports were heard from the firemen, Communities in Bloom, Waseca Rink, Snell Park, 100 Year Celebration Committee, community centre, Village of Waseca, Waseca Hall and Waseca Recreation Board. Thank you to those who volunteer time and energy to keep activities going forward in the village.

Handouts were also available showing the activities of each, members on the committees, financial reports and a look forward to plans for future activities. Volunteers for various activities are much appreciated. Appreciation for the 100 year Waseca sign erected by the recreation board was also voiced.

Many activities that will take place in the coming year were discussed. Discussion was lively and informative. The meeting adjourned before 9 p.m.

Visiting with Grandpa Vic and Grandma Bet Hult for the weekend was Sydney from Calgary. She had a grand time with her cousins and also saw a baby colt, baby calf and new puppies. Sydney's absolute favourite animals, cats, never have a moment of alone time when she is there. They love the attention and she is generous at giving as much as they will take.

Arlee Lumgair spent the weekend of April 20 with her daughters and families at Meadow Lake. April 23, she and daughter Shawna travelled to Saskatoon where they thoroughly enjoyed the evening Johnny Reid concert held at TCU Place.
