Maymont Central School annual Remembrance Day Service was held at 10:45 a.m., Nov. 8. The school gym was filled with staff, students and community guests. It is very nice to have community members come and be a part of this very important service. The walls were adorned with artwork provided by the Grade 2, 3, 4 and 5 classes.

Our principal, Mr. Sean Lockwood, was the MC for the service. It began with the singing of O Canada. Mrs.Stott, Mrs. Brehon and Ms. Gillatt have been co-teaching a Grades 2 to 5 music class once a week this year. Their choir performed two songs, Bashana Haba'ah and May the Road Rise Up. The students did a very nice job.

Following the choir, a video was shown called Standing Strong and True. Next, our SLC president, Kcarli Maxwell, and vice-president, Carlee Hamilton, read Col. John McCrae's famous poem, In Flanders Fields. It is always a very special part of our Remembrance Day service.

Our guest speaker this year was Mrs. Sharon Farnell. Sharon was an educational assistant at the school for several years until she retired last June. She gave an inspiring talk about the veterans and reminded us, "Lest We Forget."

The traditional Last Post was played, followed by a minute of silence and concluded with Reveille. The Maymont School students and members of the community laid wreaths to honor veterans from our area and their sacrifices for us all.

The program concluded with a video presentation entitled A Soldier Dies, and a Grade 9 song selection, At the Same Time. Thanks to all staff, students and community members for making our service such a wonderful tribute to our veterans.

The Grade 12 class served a delicious chili and bun lunch following the service.

The Grade 7 practical and applied arts class are learning to organize and cook meals to sell. The class has been divided into smaller groups. Each group must plan a menu, take a survey to decide whether it is a feasible plan, purchase the ingredients, set a price and finally prepare and sell the food. We look forward to the tasty treats.

Our senior basketball team has started practising for their upcoming season. Mr. Lockwood will be their coach. We hope you play well and have fun.

Parent-teacher interviews were held last week.
