A fascinating rendition of Norwegian opera by MC Alrene Jorgenson, a Viking princess, was part of the fun at Sons of Norway sports weekend.

The Western Development Museum was invaded by Vikings Feb. 24 to 26.

About 100 Sons of Norway members for eight lodges - six from Alberta and two from Saskatchewan - arrived at the museum for the annual sports weekend. This event has continued non-stop for 52 years with each lodge taking their turn to host it.

Games began with walking in the Frontier Mall at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Bowlers filled the Bowlerena while others played Norwegian Whist and Tile Rummy at the museum. The ski course on Finlayson Island was better than expected with so little snow. The skiers had a good day.

Excellent meals were provided by the museum staff. The Eberle family entertained Friday and the Meota Hobby Band Saturday. There was even a Norwegian opera singer complete with helmet, braids and breast plate give a hilarious rendition.

By noon Sunday the invaders dispersed with their booty - winnings from the games, raffles, goody bags, silent auction prizes and 50/50 draw prizes. It was a weekend of creating happy memories. Uff da! Must have been a party!
