Winter concert warms up an evening

Students from North Battleford Comprehensive High School's music program took part in their annual winter concert. The concert was opened by the school's jazz band. The jazz band is offered as an extra-curricular activity at the school.

The concert was opened by the school's jazz band. The jazz band is offered as an extra-curricular activity at the school. Members practice once a week for one hour, on Wednesday mornings.

The jazz band played three pieces - Woodchopper's Ball, Watermelon Man and Lean on Me. The jazz band consists of Liam Bassingthwaighte, Kylie Burnett, Kaileigh Hargreaves, Ben Holtzhausen, Thomas Holtzhausen, Emily Jackson, Cole Knutson, Ainslie Milley, Grady Nash, Sean Newton, Daniel Stokalko and Dylan Sylvester.

The Grade 9 band delighted the audience with three pieces. The Grade 9 band is offered as a class at NBCHS. Students attend the class every other day. That evening they played songs of Olde Eire and The Tempest.

The band consists of Amie Beatch, Jessica Bjerkness, Zachary Bossaer, Emilio Bouvier, Nicholas Buck, Kylie Burnett, Riley Campbell, Duane Combres, Samantha Edwards, Taylor Elliot, Tenton Favel, Silas Frank, Kaileigh Hargreaves, Kelly Hu, Raina Kenkel, Darian Kotchorek, Braymon Lonoway, Caesar Macalino, Nicholus Marud, Mackenzie Mutch, Vasyl Polishchuk, Madison Reimer, Michael Risling, Blake Risling, Meg Scorgie, Jessica Seth, Tristan Smith, Jordan Swerid, Keith Swiftworfe, Jackson Tady, Katrina Turnbull, Blair Vany and Kurt Walker.

Before the intermission the choir performed. This is another extracurricular activity offered at NBCHS. These students meet twice a week during the lunch hours to practise their selected pieces. That night the choir sang Song of peace, the Lion Sleeps Tonight, and Peace on This Silent Night.

The choir consisted Anna Close, Renee Fitzel, Courtney Horsman, Taisley Isaac, Rikilee Kadler, Michael Kahnapace, Cole Knutson, Sarah Knutson, Jocelyn Paulhus, Daniel Stokalko and Kayla Wakelin.

After the intermission the students in Grade 10, 11 and 12 played four pieces for the audience. These students take a class together every day. Their four pieces included Space Journey, Adagio Cantabile, the Fortune Teller's Daughter and Twenty Carols in Two Minutes.

This band includes Mercedez Amos, Naomi Cook, Kyle Ebach, Paul Ha, Emily Jackson, Cole Knutson, Tristan Lewis, Caleb Losness, Jackson Nyholt, Emily Powers, Daniel Stokalko, Dylan Sylvester and Erikson Ureta.

The school's concert band ended the night with their four pieces Telltale Heart, Scenes from The Nutcracker, Londonderry Air and Danse Macabre.

This band practises on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for one hour. The band consists of Ainslie Millie, Emily Jackson, Kaileigh Hargreaves, Amber Erickson, Cole Knutson, Ben Holtzhauen, Kylie Burnett, Riley Campbell Jessica Seth, Daniel Stotalko, Meg Scorgie, Taisley Isaac, Kayla Wakelin, Dylan Sylvester, Grady Nash, Jackson Nyholt, Thomas Holtzhauen, Sean Newton, Katrina Turnbull and Erickson Uretha.

Their conductor, Adam Streisel, and the bands' hard work and dedication paid off that night as they played for family and friends.
