Young family loses home to fire

Some days I wonder how to start. A case of "writer's block" is an unpleasant feeling especially when I feel my ramblings mean nothing to anyone but myself. However, I will start with my observations of the spring farming activities.

Legion members Charlie McCaffrey, Frank Poole, Hugette MacGregor and Tommy Terpstra honour Haylee Olson, Candace Greening, Danika Holloway, Kelcey McCarthy, Shanae Blaquiere, Emma Head and Kennedy Schaefer for their accomplishments in the Remembrance Day contests.

Some days I wonder how to start. A case of "writer's block" is an unpleasant feeling especially when I feel my ramblings mean nothing to anyone but myself. However, I will start with my observations of the spring farming activities. Seeding is well underway and a number of operators are finished. Cattle are being moved to their summer pastures. The smell of smoke and billowing smoke in the distance as well as fires close to home shows how much rain is needed in the near future.

This brings me to the plight of a young family in our area, who lost their home in the early morning hours of May 13. Jim and Charlotte Bec and their four young daughters lost all that they owned when their home burned. Donations of clothing, household supplies, toys etc can be dropped off at the home of Jake and Danielle Troesch. The girls are ages 8, 6, 4 and 1. There has also been a trust fund set up for the family at the Edam Credit Union for those who wish to help with a financial donation. All and any assistance is welcome.

H. Hardcastle School students earning first and second in the Legion Remembrance Day contest had their entries advance to the next level. Those receiving awards at the zone level before the Easter break were honoured by Charlie McCaffrey, Frank Poole, Hugette MacGregor and Tommy Terpstra. Congratulations to Haylee Olson, Candace Greening, Danika Holloway, Kennedy Schaefer, Kelcey McCarthy, Shanae Blaquiere and Emma Head.

Congratulations to the winners of the April trip of the month draw, Darryl Weber of Vawn. Winning $100 were Brent and Chantelle Weber of Warman.

A garage sale day will be held on June 4 in Edam starting at 8 a.m. For further information on this event or to have your garage sale listed contact JoAnn McCaffrey at 397-2335.

That seems to be it for this week. The high school track meet takes place at HHS Wednesday. I should have the results for you next week.
