Tuesday is the first of three nights of musical entertainment at John Paul II Collegiate. Back to the 1980s is this year’s foray into musical theatre. This is a popular event that usually sells out, but you can call 306-446-2232 to see if there are any tickets left. Tuesday and Wednesday’s performances are dinner theatres, with ticket prices set at $40, and Thursday, Dec. 11 the performance is show only for $20. The students and staff of JPII put a tremendous amount of time and effort into these annual events and they invariably prove to be highly entertaining.
Seasonal celebrations abound over the next few weeks as Christmas approaches. Tuesday is the day of a Christmas party for seniors at St. Joseph’s Hall, 1942 - 98th St. in North Battleford. This is open to all seniors, and the always entertaining Meota Hobby Band will be playing. Things get underway at 2 p.m. with bingo and coffee, and Christmas supper will be served at 4 p.m.
Friday and Saturday, check out the Battleford United Church’s Christmas Bazaar, an event for all ages.
The Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will be hosting its annual Christmas open house at the museum, 292 - 22nd St., Battleford, from 2 - 4 p.m.
This weekend is the annual presentation of WinterSong by the choirs directed by Dianne Gryba and JoAnne Kasper. The Gallery Singers, Battlefords Junior Choir, Battlefords Preparatory Choir and Kamala Youth Choir will be performing. They will be joined by special guests Tricia Florence, soprano, Jean van der Merwe, bass, Scott McKnight, cello, and Joan Savage, violin. The matinee performance is slated for Sunday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. and the evening performance goes at 7 p.m., both at the Dekker Centre.
The following Sunday at the Dekker Centre, look for A Dramatic Reading of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, presented as a special family matinee at 2 p.m. The host for the afternoon performance is Roy Challis, actor, director and playwright, who has brought countless characters to life in his career with the Battlefords Community Players. The readings will be performed by Clint Barrett, Judy Bishop, Lloyd Deshaye and Tracy Knowles, all of the Community Players. Joining them will be two friends of the Dekker Centre and the Battlefords, David Dekker and John Gormley. Christmas carols to accompany the reading of this timeless tale will be performed by Battleford’s popular vocal group With One Voice. The event is being produced by long-time member of the local drama community Jim Walls and the Dekker Centre. Tickets are $11 for adults and $2 for children.
