MELFORT — A 113-year-old Melfort tradition is returning to entertain children and adults alike.

The Melfort Agricultural Society is holding this year’s Melfort Exhibition on July 20 to 22.

“Our attendance has been increasing a little bit every year. This year we’re expecting over 12,000 people to come through the gates,” said Kim Eskowich, manager at the Melfort Agricultural Society.

This year has some new entertainment such as a comedy team on Saturday night, and Sunday has Indigo Circus, a Western-Canadian entertainment group.

“We also have motocross again this year due to it becoming very popular, so it’s growing every year as well.”

While some things are changed up, the horse show, wagon races and chariot races remain the same.

Eskowich said the society hosts the event to expose youth to different activities, to promote different livestock events, especially the horse show, and to provide a showcase for school exhibits and crafts.

The exhibition will be kicked off by the parade July 20, which will start at 10:30 a.m. The theme for this year is “Through the Decades”. The floats and people in the parade can individually pick which decade they want to represent. The parade route is approximately one hour and starts at the east side of the Kerry Vickar Centre.
