Bernie Misselbrook has owned Kerrs Dry Cleaners on 100 Street since 1989. Kerrs have sponsored Welcome Wagon in the Battlefords since June 19 1992.

That's over 20 years of providing newcomers with a welcome gift and discount coupon on dry cleaning to thousands of new people who have moved into the area.

Jackie Pitman, Welcome Wagon representative for the Battlefords presented Misselbrook with a plaque to acknowledge and honour his business and express appreciation for 20 years of sponsorship of the Welcome Wagon service in our community.

For 80 years, Welcome Wagon has been greeting people from coast to coast in Canada. Pitman visits people in their homes with a basket packed with gifts and discount coupons from more than 25 participating sponsors in the Battlefords. She takes the time to tell people about our great facilities, including the many tourist and recreation facilities. As the mother of a two-year-old, she also describes the playgroups and other activities available for preschoolers.

While she already has a varied offering of gifts, there is always room for more and businesses interested in sponsoring Welcome Wagon should call to discuss the opportunities for using this service to increase their customer base. As Misselbrook will testify after 20 years of Welcome Wagon sponsorship, he has met and served many new customers.

The Welcome Wagon service and contact details is advertised in a variety of ways across the community, but Pitman who has been co-ordinating the local service since last July, says many newcomers don't know about the service. She says word of mouth is increasing from the newcomers who are receiving the gifts and information about the community.

If you are a newcomer to the area, or have neighbours or new co-workers contact Pitman at 306-445-0735.
