On Dec. 6, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Stanley Mission RCMP responded to the report of a 37-year-old male snowmobiler who went missing on Lac La Ronge.
Stanley Mission RCMP officers went to the shore of the lake to coordinate with local residents searching for the missing snowmobiler, verified the missing snowmobiler’s home and requested the Saskatchewan RCMP Underwater Recovery Team to help with the search.
Within 30 minutes, local residents located the missing snowmobiler deceased on the shore of the lake. Stanley Mission RCMP attended the location and recovered the body.
Initial investigation indicates the male was snowmobiling, the night before, with two friends on Lac La Ronge to reach a cabin in the area. The snowmobilers got lost and drove over a section of thin ice. Both snowmobiles went through the ice.
The two friends were able to exit the waters and reach the cabin with minor injuries. The 37-year-old male snowmobiler was not heard from.
The Saskatchewan Coroners Service has ordered an autopsy.
