TISDALE — The bill for the RECplex roof replacement has gone up.

What was originally a $1.3 million project will go up by almost $57,000 to fix the section of the roof over the Hanover room.

“We found a small leak starting to form there so we thought we might as well do it while they’re here,” said Brad Hvidston, the town’s administrator. “It will be a lot cheaper to get it done all at once and it’s done forever.”

“It’s lucky that it didn’t wait for a year,” added Al Jellicoe, Tisdale’s mayor. “We could just do it and get it done all at the same time.”

Other than that, the reroofing project is going well, Hvidston said. While there has been rusted steel decking and some work that needs to be done around the skylights that will also add to the bill, those problems were expected by the town.

Cannabis bylaw

After months of discussion, it’s finally official: any Tisdale cannabis store has to be 150 metres away from a  school, daycare or park.

Council voted to pass its cannabis zoning bylaw without any changes at its July 23 meeting.

No member of the public came to the meeting about this issue. Hvidston said he heard nothing about the bylaw before it passed.

“I haven’t had a single call about it,” he said.

Landfill work

Council has approved the tender for what essentially is a large hole to dump garbage at the landfill.

The hole – or cell – is specially designed to prevent chemicals from leaking into the groundwater.

The work, which also includes roadwork and drainage, will be done by Snake Lake Construction at a cost of almost $236,000.
