Not often do leaders of the national, dioceses and local Catholic Women's League have an opportunity to all gather at one place, but that was the case Saturday.
The Notre Dame Catholic Church hosted the Prince Albert diocese CWL convention, which was the 88th annual.
Along with the regular meetings and guest speaker Velma Harasen, the national CWL president, there was a special presentation made to Johanna Sitter.
Sitter has been a CWL member for 70 years and she was presented with flowers and a certificate for her years of service and dedication from Harasen, Marianne Kramchynsky the diocesan president, and Betty Znack and Sitter's daughter, Eunice Moore, of the Notre Dame CWL.
As part of the convention, a mass co-celebrated by father Maurice Fislleau, father Greg Elder, father Gerard Legaspi and father Anthony was held before lunch.
After lunch, desert and raffle prizes, Harasen spoke to the group about faith and justice and explained that they should encourage each other and not be afraid to let others know what the CWL is all about. The CWL has been around for 93 years hopes to hit 100,000 members by its centennial year.
Harasen also spoke of two projects and mission for the CWL including Catch on Fire, a leadership training option, which is funded by donations from the CWL and the Sisters of Service. The other topic was Velma's Dream, which is aimed at helping the poverty project in Jerusalem.
The CWL also had a major raffle after selling tickets for a month for a giant gift basket. The winner was Karen Nachtegaele, as the proceeds from the raffle will go to Women Against Poverty at the local level.
