It was an all-new format for the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce when they hosted their municipal election event this year.

Community Safety Co-ordinator Herb Sutton presented his final monitoring report of the current council term Monday, highlighting a number of safety initiatives currently under way.

It was an emotional night at City Hall in North Battleford Monday. At the conclusion of the final regularly scheduled council meeting of the 2012-16 term, City Manager Jim Puffalt took to the podium to bid farewell to Mayor Ian Hamilton.

City Hall has pared back a proposed increase to utility deposits for tenants. City administration had initially proposed an increase in the deposit from $150 to $300, with another increase to $400 happening Jan. 1.

The final vote at the final regular city council meeting of the 2012-16 term was on the licence agreement for the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling event in North Battleford. The licence agreement was made back on Feb.

Issues impacting the gay and lesbian community were a major focus of a Battlefords Chamber of Commerce luncheon held as part of Small Business Week.

It was a busy two days for the Humboldt’s Farm Credit Canada. Along with St. Dominic School, Humboldt Public School, and St. Augustine School, the FCC wrapped up their Drive Away Hunger campaign by collecting all the items from all three schools.

As part of Fire Prevention Week the Humboldt Fire Department hosted an open house on Oct. 11. Fire Prevention Week took place Oct. 9-15 with this year’s theme being “Don’t wait – Check the date! Replace smoke alarms every 10 years.
