Good news for those craving just a little more nature in town: Humboldt Home Hardware partnered with Tree Canada to bring 15 trees to Water Ridge Park to celebrate National Tree Day on Sept. 24.
“We talked with the City of Humboldt and they said there was a need for trees around the spray park to sort of finish it off and provide some shade on hot summer days,” said Dean
Possberg, general manager of Humboldt Home Hardware.
There are three varieties of trees: maple hot wing, Brendon elm, and basswood. The boy scouts came out to do the planting. Some will go around the spray park, while the remainder will line the path. This is the first year Humboldt’s Home Hardware has participated in the tree planting program with Tree Canada.
Every year, Home Hardware stores send an application to receive the trees. Home Hardware corporate office pays for them and they’re provided to the community.
“We’re excited to work together with Tree Canada and Home Hardware Stores Limited on this important project,” Possberg said in a news release. “We have enjoyed great support from the local community, and this is an excellent opportunity to give back in a real and tangible way to thank our customers and our community for their support over the years.”
Over the past 23 years, Home Hardware and Tree Canada have partnered to plant almost 22,000 large trees.
“I was born and raised here,” Possberg said. “This is my community. Anything I can do to improve what we have here and make a contribution. It’s really our way of saying thank you to our customers and the community for their support. It’s about giving back to the community.”
