Unsurprisingly, the first schedule court appearance for 24-year-old Nathan Michael Labatt was postponed in light of more recently disclosed evidence.
The Regina man is accused of sexual exploitation, invitation to sexual touching and possession of child pornography. These charges are believed to have taken place during his five years as a volunteer with Scouts Canada, the Roman Catholic Church, and the Ukrainian Church. During his time as volunteer, he would have been working with teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17.
The case first began in July of last year when Lanigan RCMP received reports that there were inappropriate text messages being sent to a teenage boy. After the Regina RCMP got involved, the investigation continued over the course of the next six months until Labatt was arrested on Jan. 13.
His lawyer is scheduled to speak in court via telephone on April 13.
