Two suspects have been arrested following an overnight robbery attempt in North Battleford.
According to Battlefords RCMP in a release Wednesday, two individuals – one a 16-year-old male youth and the other a 18-year old male – faced charges after a report of an attempted theft at a business at the 1700 block of 100th Street shortly after 5 a.m. on Aug 25 in North Battleford.
It has been confirmed the business was 7-Eleven. According to police, two individuals entered and attempted to flee with a small amount of items from the business without paying.
Police report the suspects were intercepted by an employee who was able to recover the property, but the subjects were able to physically force their way out of the business and flee. The employee did suffer minor injuries during the incident.
Some additional details are known about the incident. According to a news tip to the Regional Optimist, prior to the robbery the suspects had apparently asked the employee to take their picture with her cellphone so they could tell their friends where they were, and those were later provided to police to identify the suspects.
RCMP report the accused were located a short distance away approximately half an hour after the incident, and arrested.
The 18 year old male is facing one count of robbery, while the 16 year old faces counts of robbery and assaulting a police officer. The two were in North Battleford Provincial Court on Wednesday morning and were remanded to a scheduled show cause hearing on Thursday.
This is not the only robbery to be reported in the Northwest this week. Four adults were also in provincial court on Wednesday facing charges of robbery at the Meota Hotel, stemming from Aug. 24.
They are also charged with having their faces covered during the incident. They were scheduled to appear in court again the following day, Thursday.
