The Craven Jamboree ended with yet another mud bath this past weekend, and the Lumsden RCMP have released initial numbers of some of the mayhem that seems to accompany the annual music festival.
According to Sgt. Craig Cleary, the detachment dealt with 124 prisoners, but because of rain just before the festival and another deluge as the event wrapped up, members spent major blocks of time directing traffic. Patrols were also curtailed Sunday because the soupy conditions prevented any but those operating 4x4 vehicles from getting into the camping area.
Cleary says approximately 325 incidents were reported between July 11 and 13. One person was charged in connection with an arson incident in which a tent trailer was torched. There were also 144 incidents under the Liquor Act and two reports of sexual assault. Cleary describes one report of sexual assault as unsolved. By the time security personnel were able to relay the report to the police, the woman lodging the complaint had disappeared. The other report was proven to be a false allegation.
There seven charges of impaired driving, two assault charges and three drug charges laid. A total of 18 criminal code charges for mischief, obstruction, theft and resisting arrest were also filed.
Offsite traffic service members issued 216 tickets including 10 for impaired driving, 15 driving suspensionsand three drug charges.
