Once again, June saw a strong showing for building permits in North Battleford.

A total of 11 permits were issued for $4,655,100 in June. The number of permits is down from 18 the year before, but the permit value is way up from $418,100 the same month a year ago.

Among the permits issued were three new garage permits for $7,400, one residential alteration for $3,000, one commercial alteration for $21,000, one industrial alteration for $218,000, two sign permits for $133,100, and the most sizable numbers coming in for a new commercial permit worth $1,600,000 and two new industrial permits worth $2,606,000.

Councillors took note of the positive early numbers at Monday's council meeting. City Director of Planning and Development Tim LaFreniere noted the city was seeing sizable activity in both the commercial and industrial categories this year.

"These are some projects we've worked on for some time, so it's coming to be. It's excellent, and the pace is continuing," said LaFreniere, who noted there were some significant projects still on the way. Mayor Ian Hamilton noted the Killdeer condominium project was not part of the totals reported, something that will be included in future reports.

"This demonstrates a lot of confidence in our economy," Hamilton said of the numbers.

So far in 2014, 46 permits have been issued for $21,637,800, compared to 48 for $8,739,900. Highlights include eight commercial alteration permits for $6,359,000, four new commercial permits for $8,710,000, and three new industrial permits for $3,206,000.

Also notable were four new dwelling permits issued for $1,085,000, two new two-family permits for $621,000 and one apartment permit for $810,700.
