MARTENSVILLE — It’s come down to the final days and hours of online voting in the Youth Athlete of the Year contest, and one young girl with ties to the riverside community of Outlook is looking for support in order to crack the final group.

Twelve-year-old Hailey Green of Martensville, an accomplished dancer whose parents Trevor and Stephanie Green (formerly Ofstie) both have family roots in Outlook, is still holding on in the contest. She hopes to catch a wave of momentum and collect as many votes as possible as a participant in Colossal’s Youth Athlete of the Year competition.

The competition also benefits two organizations: the V Foundation (Victory Over Cancer) and the Why Not You Foundation.

The contest works as follows: after parents and guardians sign up their young athletes, it’s up to them to share their profile pages online and collect as many votes as possible. Voting once per day is free, but supporters can also purchase additional votes, with proceeds supporting the charities. Options include 10 votes for a $10 donation, 25 votes for $25, up to 250 votes for $250. People can also customize their donation amounts.

The grand prize winner will earn the Youth Athlete of the Year title, appear in a 3BRAND advertisement in Sports Illustrated magazine, and receive a $25,000 cash prize.

As of Friday, Aug. 22, the contest was in its final stages, with the Top Five names to be locked in before voting closes Aug. 28.

Green is currently listed in ninth place, meaning she’ll need more support to break into the top five.
