A discretionary use application to establish an eight-unit pocket housing project on 103rd Street has been tabled to a future council meeting.
The decision on the proposed transitional housing initiative was delayed, mainly in response to a flood of concerns from area residents about the project at 1322 - 103rd St.
A petition was filed at City Hall signed by 21 area residents on 103rd, 104th and 105th streets opposing the project, citing decreased property values, higher property offences, safety concerns and increased traffic as among the objections. Two letters of objection were also filed expressing similar concerns.
Administration has advised council to defer a decision pending the return of the City Manager Jim Toye, who had not been in attendance at Monday's meeting.
Councillor Don Buglas was one of those who welcomed further discussion on the issue in the meantime before council made any final decision.
"There needs to be some further legwork and discussions taking place to see if this is a fit for this exact location," said Buglas. As well, Buglas wanted to know "what is the plan in place, what is the programming, and get that information out there to see if there is a comfort or not and go from there."
The motion to table passed unanimously.
