The long weekend is over, and from now until lake season starts, there are plenty of things to see and do around the Battlefords. Here are a few:

It's Saskatchewan Emergency Medical Services Week, honouring approximately 3,000 EMS providers province wide. WPD Ambulance has planned a number of school presentations and displays as well as a mock car accident at the Frontier Mall parking lot at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 23. To show its appreciation to the community, a beef on a bun lunch will be held Friday, May 24 at the base at 1072 - 103rd St. in North Battleford 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to KidSport.

More food for a good cause on Friday the 24th: The outreach organization Concern For Youth is holding a barbecue at the CUPlex from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., marking the launch of their Youth Drop In Centre Community Consultation. They are encouraging everyone to drop by and share their ideas with them. Free cake!

Live theatre fans will be pleased the Cochin Community Players' spring production of Bloom by Leeann Menogue is this coming weekend, Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25. Bloom is a one-act play directed by Betty Turnier Daniels featuring Linda Lyon-Walls and Marie-Anne Corbeil. It is the story of two recently widowed women, twisting with humour and complexity. If it's not sold out, you can get tickets by calling 306-892-2534.

North Battleford's centennial year is being commemorated with many activities. This week, there will be a reception for the student arts showcase entitled "My North Battleford" showing at the Chapel Gallery until June 15. The reception takes place Sunday, May 26 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Additionally, the centennial commissioned play and concert band performances by North Battleford Comprehensive High School, plus a centennial song performance by local musician Kurtis Kopp, are to take place the Don Ross Gym/Theatre (at the other end of the building) starting at 3:30 p.m.

Sunday, May 26 at the Western Development Museum Gospel Jamboree, entertainment featuring a variety of voices raised in joy and praise starts at 1 p.m. with the last act going on at 5 p.m. The food concession opens at noon. It's at these kinds of events that your WDM membership pays off. Admission is free to WDM members, otherwise regular museum admission applies.
