Assault with a weapon on Red Pheasant

Two people have been charged in connection to an assault with a weapon incident on Red Pheasant First Nation south of the Battlefords. The incident happened around 3 a.m. Dec. 28. RCMP say they responded to a shots-fired call.

Two people have been charged in connection to an assault with a weapon incident on Red Pheasant First Nation south of the Battlefords.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. Dec. 28. RCMP say they responded to a shots-fired call. When they got there they found a 36-year old woman had been assaulted with a shotgun.

Emergency health services arrived and transported the woman to hospital for treatment.

Following the incident charges were laid against a 34-year-old man, Robin Wuttunee, and 22-year-old man, Ashley Wuttunee. They are charged with the: possession of a weapon for the dangerous purpose; pointing a firearm; assault with a weapon; careless use of a firearm; unauthorized possession of a firearm; possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order; and mischief under $5,000.

The two men are still not in custody and arrest warrants have been issued. The public is being asked not to approach either individual and to call 911 if they see either of them.

The investigation is still in its early stages with police speaking to neighbours and possible witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to contact North Battleford RCMP at 306-446-1720 or Crime Stoppers.
