Battlefords RCMP say they are investigating a report of a possible child abduction in the area of the Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre on Carlton Trail at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say an eight-year-old child was approached at the aquatic centre by a man who asked the child to go somewhere with him. Police say the man is alleged to have attempted to grab the child at one point when the child did not comply, then the vehicle left the area.

The alleged assailant has been described as Aboriginal, with a ponytail, glasses and wearing black swim trunks.

Police say the area and building were immediately searched by members upon receiving the report but no suspects were located. Surveillance footage was reviewed, but, at this point, no suspects or additional information has been attained. Further footage is to be reviewed today.
