In a decision that has big implications for the North Battleford Comp Vikings, the Saskatoon Secondary Schools Athletic Directorate has cancelled fall sports in 2020 due to COVID-19.
All fall high school sports in Saskatoon are cancelled including football, volleyball, cross country and soccer. In making the announcement the SSSAD stated that "the health and safety of the student-athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers involved in SSSAD athletics is paramount."
It is uncertain what the immediate impact is on fall athletics for NBCHS. But the news calls into question whether fall sports will happen in North Battleford, as the Vikings play their football schedule in the Saskatoon league.
At the very least, the Vikings would need to scramble to find other opponents if their season were to go ahead. An official announcement has not been made yet about whether or not fall sports will proceed at the North Battleford high schools.
