Baptiste matter adjourned

The legal woes for Red Pheasant First Nation chief Stewart Baptiste continue.

The legal woes for Red Pheasant First Nation chief Stewart Baptiste continue.

Counsel for Baptiste was in North Battleford Provincial Court Wednesday to address charges of failure to comply with a probation order and driving while disqualified under the Traffic Safety Act.

Baptiste, who previously pleaded guilty to mischief in 2011 and who is also proceeding to trial this fall on separate impaired-driving charges stemming from 2010, was not in court Wednesday.

However, his lawyer Randy Kirkham asked for and was granted an adjournment to May 16 on the probation and driving while disqualified charges. The matter will return to court at that time.

Baptiste was recently re-elected chief of Red Pheasant First Nation in March.
