In September, the board of directors of BATC Community Development Corporation reviewed an intake of applications and as a result 27 applications were approved to receive funding with a total of $1,027,700 being distributed to various non profit groups in and around the Battlefords and surrounding First Nations communities.
A BATC CDC press release states this amount reflects the second quarter of funding distributed by the corporation for 2012-13. The third quarter intake of applications is Dec. 3.
Battlefords Indian Métis Friendship Centre received a grant of $22,000 to cover the costs of operating an emergency shelter for homeless people. The shelter provides a safe, warm environment for homeless and transient people in need of a bed for the night during the winter months, according to BATC CDC. This program runs for six months. Along with a bed to sleep in, the program also offers healthy snacks before bed and a nutritional breakfast.
The Battlefords Empty Stocking Fund also received a grant for $10,000 to provide Christmas food and toy hampers to its clients.
