Former Liberal leader Ryan Bater is no longer a "free agent."

He has joined the team at Battlefords Tourism as tourism development manager, which means he will be staying in the Battlefords, at least for the next several months.

It is a short-term appointment that began March 15 and runs to Oct. 31.

By that point a new organizational structure and funding and governance model will likely be in place for marketing and promoting the Battlefords. The Greater Battlefords Marketing Alliance is currently in the early stages of development.

Bater resigned as leader of the Liberals Jan. 31 and had been seeking a new position since then. Before entering politics, Bater was general manager of the Battlefords Regional Economic Development Authority.

In a statement, Battlefords Tourism chairperson Donna Challis pointed to that background in economic development as a valuable one for the role he is taking on.

"Ryan is very familiar with the workings of Battlefords Tourism because of his work and partnership with our organization during his time with the Battlefords REDA," said Challis. "We believe Ryan will be a perfect fit and will be able to assist Battlefords Tourism with the changes we are working on and help lead us forward."
