Here are some highlights from last week’s town council meeting in Battleford:

• Auditor Dallan Oberg said the Town of Battleford is in a good financial position.

Auditors make recommendations for organizations to improve financial matters, and Oberg said the number of recommendations from last year to this year have dropped significantly.

• The Quality Assurance Quality Control report usually comes to council once a month, and informs council and the public of information regarding the town’s water usage, among other things.

Usually things are normal, as they were in May 2019.

The amount of water treated that month was 86,177 cubic metres. A cubic metre equals 220 gallons of water.

According to Councillor Doug Laing, the total amount was 19 million litres of water.

Mayor Ames Leslie said the number “helps put into perspective how much water has to run through facilities in a town of this size.”

• Town council approved funds to repoint and replace some of Town Hall’s bricks. The work wasn’t completed in 2018, and council carried over $20,000 from last year.

According to a recent bid, repointing and replacing some bricks would cost over $76,000.

Council approved close to $56,000 for the work.

Some of the brickwork would include replacing mortar in areas where it’s too hard for the brick, turning bricks around, and replacing if needed.

According to a report by Chief Administration Officer John Enns-Wind, an unknown amount of money is needed to repair cornices on the historic building.
