Battleford residents, mark your calendars. Earth Hour, for the first time in Battleford history, has been declared for March 31 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Earth Hour was created in 2006 by the World Wildlife Federation-Australia to make a simple statement about climate change. Residents of Sydney were instructed to turn off all their lights for an hour for one night.
By 2007, Earth Hour in Sydney saw 2.2 million individuals and 2,000 businesses turning off their lights for one hour. Earth Hour is now observed by hundreds of millions of individuals across 135 countries.
