The Town of Battleford has awarded the tender for this year’s paving projects to D. Jorgenson Holdings Ltd., which operates as Northern Blacktop of Saskatoon.
At last week’s meeting, the tender was awarded for $698, 727.50, plus GST, with a start date of Aug. 17 and a substantial performance date of Sept. 15.
The project will include paving on 2nd Avenue from 15th Street to 30th Street, as well as some curbing and sidewalks.
The bid came in close to what the 2015 budget called for, however Town Administrator Sheryl Ballendine said, “We don’t have much wiggle room there, really.”
Catterall and Wright Consulting Engineers, which undertook the tender process, also recommended the Town maintain a budget of $805,000 to cover the costs of any additional work that may be required.
“We know that from the work we had done on 1st between 17th and 19th that when you get in there and start doing … these kinds of things you end up having some issues,” said Ballendine. “That’s why they suggested we put a contingency in there.”
Northern Blacktop’s bid was the lower of two. The other bidder was G and C Asphalt with a bid of $888,770.75.
