Second and third reading took place Monday of the new official community plan and zoning bylaw for the Town of Battleford.
The Town now sends the documents to the province for review and approval.
That is expected to take place over the coming months and is the last step before it officially takes effect.
“It is not official until the ministry approves it,” said CAO John Enns-Wind.
The OCP is designed to manage growth and development in the town. The plan was prepared by Crosby, Hanna and Associates.
An open house took place March 10 in which the OCP and zoning bylaw were presented. Documents were also available at Town Hall and on the Town’s website for review.
Unlike a similar process that took place recently in North Battleford, it was not a contentious one, with little opposition expressed.
A public hearing took place at the start of town council Monday \ before the OCP was passed, and no opposition was brought forward.
The only person who spoke on the issue was a businessperson from Creative Interiors who said she was happy with the directive to keep business downtown.
She said she had read the entire document online, which prompted Mayor Derek Mahon to quip she was “probably one of the only people in town” to do that.
