A Battlefords-area man faces charges in connection to attacks on women at the University of Saskatchewan in May.
The Josiah Blackplume, 22, appeared in court in Saskatoon Monday. He faces charges of sexual assaulting a woman at a university parking lot, uttering threats, and a robbery with violence charge.
The robbery charge is connected to a May 10 incident where he is accused of grabbing a woman running on the Meewasin Trail.
According to Saskatoon Police, at approximately noon May 10 a female was jogging on the MVA trail toward the train bridge on the east side of the South Saskatchewan River. The man is alleged to have grabbed her from behind and threatened to physically harm her.
The suspect robbed the woman of her iPod and fled the scene. She was not physically harmed.
The accused is also facing charges in connection with a sexual assault that occurred May 23 on the University of Saskatchewan campus.
According to police, the man convinced the female victim to got to a nearby parking lot off of Seminary Crescent. Police say when the two arrived, the suspect sexually assaulted the woman before fleeing on foot. The victim was not physically injured during the assault.
An extensive investigation took place after the incidents, with police releasing a sketch drawing of the assailant following the attacks.
Saskatoon police said Friday that the media coverage that resulted led to the arrest of the individual from the Battlefords-area, who was brought before a Justice of the Peace that night.
