Battlefords Tourism Week kicks off with mock cheque presentation

Saskatchewan Tourism Week kicked off May 14 with mock cheque presentations in front of North Battleford City Hall and Battleford Town Hall. The cheque, for $21.4 million, represents the total value of tourism for the Battlefords.

Saskatchewan Tourism Week kicked off May 14 with mock cheque presentations in front of North Battleford City Hall and Battleford Town Hall.

The cheque, for $21.4 million, represents the total value of tourism for the Battlefords. Tourism week in the Battlefords featured a Battlefords Tourism open house Wednesday. Thursday, from 2 to 4 p.m., Battlefords Tourism is organizing voyageur canoe tours around Finlayson Island. The tours will start at the old bridge closest to North Battleford on Finlayson Island. Participants will "experience the fur trading days by paddling a canoe."

Battlefords Tourism is also hosting an invitation-only luncheon Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Western Development Museum, where the Tourism Volunteer of the Year Award, as well as the Employer Tourism Training Award will be awarded.

Tourism in Saskatchewan is estimated to bring in a total of $1.67 billion annually, and Tourism Saskatchewan estimates the total number of visitors to the rectangular province at over nine million.
